In many cases, the purchase of a musical instrument involves a large financial effort.
Thereby it is particularly difficult for musical beginners to make a well considered decision.
This project was about connecting aspiring musicians with local professionals
and music schools to lend unused instruments. The goal was to give beginners the opportunity
to try out an instrument without great financial risk and to promote a sustainable use of musical items.
With this vision we participated in the 5-Euro-Business competition and won the first place.
With the "Share Music" mediation platform, we developed a way to enable the lending of unused instruments.
Professional musicians and music schools are given the opportunity to profitably lend their instruments to
other people in the region.
Thereby especially beginners should get the ability to test an instrument without risk
and high costs. Share Music allows members to set their own lending conditions and will be financed
by a commission.
The platform thrives on users who share a common musical passion and is designed to address the needs of beginners and professionals.
To get a first visualization of our idea, we started with the creation of a wireframe.
The building of the wireframes was a dynamic process in which the vision was constantly refined.
Various adjustments and discussions within the team led to a common understanding of the platform and enabled a mature concept.
Here are a few insights into the problems that had to be solved:
Which instruments do we include in our program? How will we manage pickup and return? How do we deal with damaged instruments? How do we manage payment and insurance? How do we create a basis of trust for all members? How do we stand out from other platforms? How can we ensure the best customer experience
To acquire first customers, our team focused on social media marketing.
For this purpose, we used Instagram as an advertising platform. With self-designed
stories that are visible for 24 hours and posts that include quotes from well-known
personalities, we targeted a broad audience.
Along with the inspirational posts, photos of instruments that are available for rental were also posted.
At the beginning of our project, we contacted several music schools in our region and
were able to acquire first partners who provide instruments via our platform.
In addition, we offered our own instruments in order to provide a larger inventory.
Our company was built for the duration of one semester and
faced several challenges. At the end of the semester, all participants of the competition
had to pitch their business idea and their results to an expert jury.
The strategy and success of a company was then evaluated and awards were given.
Due to the company's extraordinary performance, Share Music won the first place
in the competition. Through intensive teamwork, the company managed to generate
its first sales within a period of six months and to establish a small customer base.
In addition, we would also like to thank the team of the 5€-Business competition.
Through courses in the fields of idea development, project management, law, marketing
and finance, we were provided with valuable knowledge.
This made it possible for us to realize our vision.
